Notable events include a seasonal farmers market, the second largest UFO festival in the nation (complete with an alien costume parade), Dragging the Gut annual car cruising event,
historical Turkey Rama celebration, Sip! Wine & Food Classic, the International Pinot Noir Celebration, and many others. McMinnville is also the home of the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, featuring the Spruce Goose and the Wings & Waves waterpark.
Our Organization
Yamhill County was established in 1843 and is one of Oregon’s original four districts. Today, Yamhill County has a population of 105,000 residents and
consists of the incorporated cities of Amity, Carlton, Dayton, Dundee, Lafayette, McMinnville, Newberg, Sheridan, Willamina, and Yamhill.
Agriculture is the county’s primary industry, with fruits, nuts, berries, hay, silage, and field and grass seeds being the major agricultural products. Yamhill County also has more than 80 wineries and 200 vineyards consistently producing the greatest number of award-winning wines in the state of Oregon. Yamhill County is also home to a steel rolling mill, and electronic and dental equipment manufacturing. With an adopted budget of approximately $150 million dollars for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, the County has continued to grow and prosper.
Yamhill County is a general law county, governed by an elected three-member Board of Commissioners that oversees and appoints the County Administrator and County Counsel positions. In addition to the Board, the citizens also elect the sheriff, county clerk, assessor, treasurer, and district attorney. Department Heads and Administrative Managers are hired and supervised by the County Administrator and include, in part, the directors of business services, health and human services, planning, public works, and community justice. Yamhill County has approximately 570 FTE and five bargaining
units. Each department and division exists to provide services to the citizens of our county. Successful public service employment requires a commitment to establishing trust and goodwill with the public and among our employees.
The Position
The Business Services Director assists the County Administrator in managing operations of the County including budget management, administrative oversight, insurance renewals, risk management, and policy development. Plans, directs, and oversees the operations and programs
of internal service departments, including: facilities maintenance, human resources, information technology, special projects, and finance. Develops
goals, objectives, and strategies to meet department and county strategic plans; coordinates support services with other county departments. Provides
complex management analysis and support to the County Administrator and the Board of Commissioners. Assumes lead role in carrying out complex projects.
The Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field; and five years of progressively
responsible senior management experience involving fiscal, personnel, purchasing, project management, and program administration. A satisfactory combination of relevant experience and training which demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and ability may be substituted for the above. Public
sector experience is preferred. Desirable qualities include a commitment to working in a collaborative, friendly team environment. The ideal candidate will be intuitive, flexible, adaptable, and able to exercise excellent leadership, judgment, with proven skills in personnel development, supervision, and the ability to be considerate and respectful of employees.
Compensation
The salary for the Business Services Director will be $85,261-$103,275, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the
successful candidate. Yamhill County offers an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, Oregon Public
