Assistant Cooks/Leads
Assistant Cooks/Leads in preparation of menu items. Provide top quality products and customer service in the front of the house. Train employees in performing all the related tasks in customer service.
Summary of Duties
Under general supervision of an assigned unit Chef/Manager and/or Sous Chef, as designated by the Southside Café General Manager, this position is responsible for working with unit chef and culinary team in preparation and presentation of food in assigned area(s) to include: platform menu items, special menus, prep items and catering menu items.
Develop and ensure proper par stock ordering levels so that sufficient quantities of product are on hand while minimizing waste from over purchasing. Responsible for proper handling and storage of all food products. Provide an adequate supply of clean, sanitary and properly stored dishware, utensils, and pots and pans to appropriate work locations.
Act as a designated float Food Service Worker Lead to primarily fill the temporary vacancy of any of the Food Service Worker Lead positions with the Dining Services system. If not assigned to fill a temporary Food Service Worker Lead position, the position will be assigned Food Service Worker Lead duties at Southside Café as determined by the Southside Café General Manager and perform such duties under the supervision of the Southside Café Chef/Manager and/or Sous Chef.
Required Qualifications
Possession of, or eligible for, a food handler’s permit AND one year of experience in quantity or institutional food preparation AND serving, which includes six months experience directing the work of others; OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Requirements
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Food Handler’s Permit within 14 days of employment.
Must be able to work: flexible hours including weekends and holidays and multiple locations/platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
Two to five years food service experience.
Multi-faceted food experience.
Experience leading and training employees.
General knowledge of commercial grade kitchen equipment use, safety, and maintenance.
This position will fill in when there are vacancies or absences throughout department. Must have flexible schedule and be able to work any day of week and variable shifts. Monthly salary $2313.00.
