Wine Program Director
Looking for an enthusiastic wine professional to lead the Wine Program at the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center.
Job Description:
- Lead a staff team dedicated to celebrating and showcasing Washington wine and agriculture and delivering outstanding guest service at every opportunity.
- Organize monthly wine tasting themes and wine purchasing, wine education experiences, and wine sales of a unique, brand neutral tasting room.
- Manage and grow the Best Cellers Wine Club.
- Work with team members to implement multiple large wine and fundraising events each year.
- Serve as a representative of the Clore Center to the public and build relationships with industry partners, donors, and supporters.
Essential Functions:
- Share a passion for Washington wine and its history.
- Available Tuesday through Saturday, some evenings, with ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Hire, train, and supervise Wine Program staff including tasting room staff and wine education staff.
- Create and deliver wine education to a variety of audiences, from introductory to industry professionals.
- Coach and develop sales skills in team members.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and data with a high level of detail.
- Lead or participate in staff teams to organize and host large events, from beginning to end.
- Prepare and deliver reports to the Board of Directors as requested.
- Experience with nonprofit organizations a plus.
- Work on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, ability to manage schedule and demands to meet goals.
- Occasional travel to network and cultivate relationships to build exposure for the Clore Center.
- Attend trade shows and industry events.
- Build on and expand relationship across the Washington wine industry.
- Manage POS, inventory, and ticketing systems with the highest level of detail.
- Serve as a polished and professional representative of the Clore Center and Washington wine and agriculture.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma (college preferred) plus five years tasting room, wine retail sales, hospitality, or wine education experience.
- Proven wine knowledge, whether though certification or experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to present a calm, professional demeanor and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and by email.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading, and public speaking.
- Ability to act independently and exercise sound judgement.
- Attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure during high profile events.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments that require assistance from a variety of staff and volunteers.
- Ability to motivate and work effectively with groups and individuals.
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
- Experience with MS Office 365 Software, social media, and website management platforms.
- Experience with retail management systems.
- Experience with nonprofit organizations, Board meetings, and fundraising activities.
- Required to work weekend and special events.
- Required to lift and move cases of product that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
- Knowledge of federal and state legal compliance related to tasting room operations.
- Must hold a Class 12 Mixologist Permit.
- Required to be 21 years of age or older.
- Must hold a Benton Franklin County Food Handlers Card.
