Senior Director of Development

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Gillings Advancement offers a variety of services to facilitate the School’s research, teaching and service mission, promoting the development of public health policy, publicizing School activities and public health issues, and generating financial support from alumni, foundations, corporations and the NC Legislature. The office also coordinates special events.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Advancement, the Senior Director of Development will maintain and manage a personal portfolio of prospects to identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts from alumni, friends, faculty, parents and other sources to support the Gillings School of Global Public Health top priorities. The position may be assigned to represent the School by geographic regions and/or by departments. The Senior Director of Development will be an active leader in the advancement office and a resource for the junior staff.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Previous experience soliciting major gifts.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
5-7 years of demonstrated successful principal and major gift fundraising or transferrable experience required. Proven, excellent verbal and written communication skills. The skill to motivate and engender the confidence of prospects and donors. Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive environment such as a research university setting; and exhibit the highest standards of professionalism and performance as evidenced by collaborative teamwork, initiative, critical thinking, good judgment, consistency of output, timeliness of follow-through and strength of written and verbal communication skills.
