Environmental Analyst
This in-field position will provide environmental information as a part of achieving overall health for the general public and quality of the environment by performing inspections, sample collection, quantitative and qualitative tests for identification, monitoring, and prevention of air pollution. Monitor ambient air conditions for regulatory compliance and to protect public health. Inform and educate the general public as well as the environmental health community regarding ambient air quality. This position is physical and will require ascending/descending ladders, carrying objects >25lbs. With or without accommodations.
About the State Hygienic Laboratory
Since 1904, the State Hygienic Laboratory has been at the forefront of public health issues in Iowa. As the state’s public health and environmental laboratory, the Hygienic Laboratory serves all of Iowa’s 99 counties through disease detection, environmental monitoring, and newborn and maternal screening.

Position Qualifications
Education or Equivalency Required
A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a science with emphasis on analytical chemistry, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrates the ability to work with a variety of individuals.
- This position requires travel across the State, frequently overnight.
- Must have a valid U.S. driving license and be able to meet the University of Iowa's Fleet Safety requirements: https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/fleet-services
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of maintaining, servicing, and calibration of Air Quality monitoring equipment.
- Demonstrates work toward improvement and implementation of Air Quality Operations.
- Demonstrates a commitment to business ethics, and can explain the rationale and importance of basic business ethics.
