Correctional Counselors
Do you have experience working with clients to break down the behavioral barriers that are impeding positive outcomes? If so, we are expanding our team and seeking experienced professional counselors like you. Two vacancies with the Correctional Rehabilitation Unit at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution (TRCI) in Umatilla.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The purpose of these positions is to manage a caseload of inmates from reception to release, to include the preparation of case management documents, making inmate program assessments, appropriately determining custody levels, responding to inmate requests, and interviewing and counseling inmates. These positions work in conjunction with security staff in assessing and making decisions on security issues regarding inmates. Correctional Counselors are the Core Correctional Resource of the Department.
CORRECTIONAL COUNSELOR
Your application materials will be reviewed to verify that you:
- have two years of professional counseling experience working with clientele in a social service or rehabilitative program, AND
- a Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or related field with major coursework in behavioral science.
Three years of experience in a social service, rehabilitative, or correctional program with primary responsibility for guiding and/or counseling individuals or groups in the solution of occupational, educational, personal, or social problems may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
A Master's degree in a behavioral science may substitute for one year of the required professional experience.
NOTE: Professional counseling experience must include providing supportive counseling to clients on a one-to-one basis with full responsibility for developing and managing each case plan.
An Associate degree in social services such as Mental Health, Human Service, or Social Service may substitute for two years of the required experience.
