Maintainer I - Full Time laborer for Highway & Grounds. High School Degree + 6-12 months construction/road repair experience. Valid Class B CDL license required. Ability to successfully complete training for certificate as CT Pesticide Applicator.
Objectives:
Under the supervision of the Public Works Foreman, Crew Leader, or lead worker, performs manual and some semiskilled work in the construction, repair and maintenance of Town roads, bridges, storm sewers, parks, recreational areas, golf course, public grounds, and facilities. Operates and performs minor maintenance on dump truck, front-end loader, tractor, roller and related equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Receives oral instructions or work orders from the Foreman or Crew Leader who reviews work in progress.
- Performs manual work in the laying of pipe, repair, replacement and cleaning of catch basins, patching or resurfacing roads, and related maintenance tasks, including buildings and grounds.
- Performs laboring tasks using power or hand tools in general maintenance, such as shovel, pick and rake as well as jackhammer, chain saw, and power tools; operates a pay loader to load materials on trucks.
- Shovels material such as sand, fill, asphalt, salt, gravel, and cold patch; operates leaf collection equipment.
- Digs trenches, lays pipe, cleans catch basins and removes brush and debris.
- Repairs, installs, constructs fences, guard rails, roadside equipment and signs.
- Drives a truck loader, roller, tractor, auxiliary accessories, mows lawns, roadsides, fields, fairways, grounds, etc.; operates recycling equipment and other equipment as required; loads and unloads trucks; performs daily inspections and maintenance of trucks and equipment.
- Maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment and reports serious malfunctions to superior.
- Performs semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment.
- Operates trucks and equipment to plow snow and sand roads, parking lots and other areas and shovels snow by hand as assigned.
- Responsible for automotive waste oil and battery recycling with the highest regard toward safety; screens all materials left at the highway collection area in accordance with DEP
standards. - Repairs and paints bridges, markers, signs, benches, buildings, etc.
- Operates equipment to mow fields, recreational areas and the Westwood Golf Course; grades, fertilizes, seeds and lines athletic fields; removes leaves and applies pesticides on a seasonal basis.
- Uses hand tools to plant and care for trees, shrubbery and flower beds.
- Performs heavy manual work in the removal of debris and trees.
- Assists in the planting and cultural practices involved in growing turf grass, trees and plants, and maintaining irrigation systems.
- Services restrooms and concession stands.
- Performs flag duties at major road construction and paving sites.
- Follows standard safety procedures.
- May occasionally operate roller, grinder, sweeper and vac-all when necessary.
- May use computer terminal.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Salary $56,849.
