Junior Civil Engineer
The Town of Bethlehem Department of Public Works is seeking candidates for a Junior Engineer. Primary duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
· Performs supervisory or high level technical drafting work such as that involved in detailing engineering drawings utilizing AutoCAD;
· Construction inspection of Town infrastructure including water, sewer, stormwater and highways;
· Prepares general and special purpose maps;
· Checks contract drawings; computes quantities of waste, fill, construction material and other items;
· Investigates drainage complaints;
· As part of Town Stormwater Program, completes MS4 regulatory inspections (construction compliance inspections, outfall inspections, permanent practices and facility audits);
· Makes preliminary and final estimates on engineering projects;
· Receives records, charts, and statistical information of a technical engineering nature;
· Analyzes data as it comes from the field;
· Checks the work of engineering aides;
· Serves a chief of party or filed survey crew;
· Supervises work, takes notes, makes sketches of work performed, makes contact with the general public, and is responsible for work results and progress of the party;
· Assists with acquisition, input and analysis of data used in the Town’s Geographic Information (GIS) datasets;
· Assists with field data collection using a variety of equipment, including GPS and other mobile devices.
Minimum Experience Required:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and whose curriculum is accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience in the practice of engineering.
Special Requirement: Possession of a valid NYS Driver License issued by NYS Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
