Assistant Managing Editor - Digital
The Blade, a Pulitzer Prize winner for investigative reporting, is seeking an Assistant Managing Editor to lead its growing digital platforms.
The successful candidate will manage content creation and development teams for our breaking news site, and two news apps that focus on interactive storytelling, videos, photos, and graphics. The Assistant Managing Editor also will manage content production workflows for all digital products and make workflow adjustments as needed.
In addition, the editor will develop standard practices and communicate the proper steps for responding to breaking news and exclusive content including social media efforts, online publication times and push notification strategies. We are looking for an idea generator as well as someone well versed in digital, social, and integrated content. The successful candidate will be an active member of a cross-disciplinary team that develops social media strategies and content creation plans.
We are looking for someone with a track record of training people on digital products and analyzing audience data to develop content and social media strategies and to react to breaking news and trends. This editor will collaborate closely with other newsroom editors and department directors to oversee physical newsroom redesign to best accommodate a complete digital transformation and will be actively involved in designing a staffing plan and hiring newsroom employees as openings occur.
A minimum of 5 years of news experience, preferably on digital platforms, and at least 2 years of employee management experience are required, as is a bachelor’s degree.
