General Purpose of Job: Ensures appropriate delivery of psychiatric services for clients in the Behavioral Health Department, from admission through discharge by providing: individual, family and group therapy; case management to include development of a Master Treatment Plan and Discharge Plan; diagnosis, assessment and evaluation. Serves as a member of the intra-disciplinary treatment team and provides direct delivery of services for assigned patients. Conducts clinical interviews and psychological testing, with test interpretation and report writing. Provides clinical supervision to Supervised Psychologists as necessary.
General Qualification Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology.
Initial and continuing education as listed in educational guidelines to maintain active licensure.
Candidates must be fully licensed to practice Psychology in WV by the WV Board of Examiners of Psychologists, and be capable of providing clinical supervision to supervised psychologists.
Must have excellent communication and customer skills and knowledge of community resources.
Licensure: W.V. licensed in Clinical Psychology, as per the specific licensure guidelines set by the discipline and the State of West Virginia.
6. Program specific Education and/or Experience:
a. Behavioral Health Center: Must have at least two years of experience working with mentally ill and substance abuse patients in an inpatient setting or 4 years of general mental health and substance abuse experience.
b. Beacon Outpatient Program: At least two years of experience in working with mentally ill patients in an outpatient program, or two years of experience in conducting therapy with individuals, families or groups. Or, four years of experience in general mental health field.
c. Southway Outpatient Program: At least two years of experience working with substance abuse patients in an outpatient setting, or two years of experience in conducting substance abuse therapy with individuals, families, groups. Or, four years of experience in general Substance abuse field.
d. Geriatric Program: At least two years of experience working with geriatric mentally ill patients in an outpatient setting, or two years of experience in conducting individual, family, group therapy with this population. Or four years of experience in working with older population in the mental health field.
Communication Skills: Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. Must be able to communicate with all internal and external customers effectively. Must demonstrate skills in verbal and non-verbal communication and negotiation. Must be able to relay information effectively in a group setting. Must be able to do public speaking. Able to communicate effectively within an intra-disciplinary treatment team and community agencies.
Computer/Typing/Mathematical Skills: Must have basic knowledge of computer skills so that the employee can effectively receive training on the hospital computer system and document in the electronic medical record.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Must be capable, with WV Psychology Board approval, of providing clinical supervision to Supervised Psychologists.
Physical Demands:
Visual Acuity –Must be able to see to assess patient’s condition, both physical characteristics and nonverbal communications. Must be able to monitor equipment within job responsibilities.
Hearing Acuity – Must be able to hear to assess patient’s condition. Must be able to distinguish variations in sounds.
Manual Dexterity – Must be able to manipulate and operate equipment.
Oral Communication – Must possess excellent oral communication skills. Must be able to communicate with all internal and external customers both on the telephone and directly. Must be able to communicate with outside agencies and referral sources. Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians and other members of the treatment team.
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to withstand repeated bending, and be able to assume awkward positions, which may be needed in transferring, positioning, and restraining patients. It involves considerable lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or crouching. Must have the ability to respond to emergency situations. Must have stamina to work 40 hours per week with rotating shifts and weekends.
Age Appropriateness: Must be able to demonstrate ability to assess levels and plan age appropriate psychiatric and substance abuse care related to physical, psychological and emotional needs. Must have the ability to communicate with all developmental ages especially adults and geriatrics.
Work Environment: Works in well-lit, well-ventilated, heated and air-conditioned environment. May be subject to low-level noise. May be exposed to blood and blood-borne pathogens in routine performance of job duties. Will be exposed to a psychiatric environment where safety measures must be always reinforced and effectively evaluated.
