SUMMARY
The purpose of transportation planning is to fulfill goals by developing strategies to meet transportation needs. These strategies address current and future land use, economic development, traffic demand, public safety, health and social needs.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following, as well as other duties that may be assigned by the Chief Tribal Officer.
-In charge of road maintenance
-Planning of all roads projects
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY AND SKILLS
To collect, assemble and analyze facts to recommend solutions to road problems. Organize and present facts and opinions orally and in writing. Be able to interact with supervisors, other employees and the public to gain their cooperation and to establish a working relationship.
-Knowledge of Construction.
-Knowledge of asphalt, concrete and dirt – Calculation Process.
-Knowledge of Blue print reading, coming from BIA.
-Other required skills include computer experience, excellent verbal skills.
-Must work with other programs to gather data, i.e. Omaha Tribal Police Department, any tribal programs having knowledge on tribal property lines
-Must have experience in heavy equipment
-Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation
-Must possess a valid Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) upon hire
-Must be able to respond to emergency situations twenty-fours (24) hours a day
-Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
-Some overnight travel may be required
QUALIFICATIONS
GED or High School Diploma, computer training or experience would be appropriate, knowledge of reading maps a plus. Comparable work experience will be considered.
