ANNOUNCEMENT OF TENURE TRACK FACULTY VACANCY ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT

The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, NY, invites applications for a calendar-year, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the ESF Open Academy.

We are working to make online education programs an ever-greater part of ESF’s educational offerings. Our current priority is building the faculty pool that is part of the College’s online courses, certificates, and degree portfolio. The Bachelor of Science in Sustainability Management is a fully online A.S. to B.S. completion program that integrates discipline- and career-focused knowledge, skills, and perspectives based on the three pillars of sustainability. Emphasis is placed upon understanding how key environmental dimensions of sustainability are interdependent with socially and economically viable policies and practices. This program builds upon a broad and flexible foundation at the lower division with specialized sustainability coursework at the upper division. Students synthesize knowledge and skills and strengthen workforce-readiness through a capstone project.

Position Description:

We seek candidates for a full-time calendar-year tenure-track position in residence at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin by January 1, 2023. Successful candidates will teach courses in the online Bachelor of Science in Sustainability Management program and play a key role in the delivery of this curriculum as well as mentor other faculty colleagues in the area of high-quality online teaching. The candidate will employ novel teaching methods for online courses in sustainability, broadly defined. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an impactful research program in areas including sustainability and online pedagogy that promotes the broader mission of the College to advance knowledge and promote stewardship of both the natural and designed environments. The candidate is also expected to effectively mentor undergraduate and graduate students and provide service to the unit, college, and profession. Very importantly, we seek candidates who share ESF’s commitment to sustainability; diversity and inclusion; undergraduate teaching; career readiness; and to working with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and collaborators.

Responsibilities:

• Instruct courses within in the online Sustainability Management program; typically 3 fall courses, 2 spring courses, and 1 summer course
• Develop and sustain a portfolio of scholarship in sustainability and/or online pedagogy
• Collaborate with the ESF Teaching and Learning center to develop a community of practice in online teaching
• Participate in college service

Required Qualifications:

• A terminal degree in sustainability or related field from an accredited institution
• Experience teaching undergraduates in sustainability and/or a related field
• Evidence of successful teaching in an online environment that includes regular and substantive interaction among and between students and instructors

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional experience in a public, private and/or non-profit organization that entailed sustainable policy, practice, and social responsibility
• Demonstrated success in working in a team-based environment
• Experience advising undergraduate students
• Evidence of scholarship as it relates to online pedagogy in STEM
