General Summary: The maintenance mechanic position performs maintenance in the University residence life areas. Small work requests generated by the students are dealt with on a daily scheduled basis and include, but are not limited to, clearing drains, switch and outlet repairs, furniture repair, lighting and fixture repairs, and small plumbing repairs. Larger projects are completed as assigned, in regards to electrical and plumbing.
Job Description:
- The maintenance mechanic is customer service oriented and works independently.
- Responds appropriately and efficiently to a variety of personalities and requests.
- Uses judgement to make decisions in the field, working within specific guidelines.
- Performs maintenance operations and repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems of buildings.
- Repairs windows, doors, screens and painted surfaces.
- Cleans drains, repairs faucets and shower valves, resets toilets, assess and repair plumbing leaks.
- Maintains and repairs electrical connections, switches, circuits, thermostats and valves.
- Repairs and replaces dormitory furniture as needed.
- Audits buildings assigned to create and perform preventative maintenance activities.
- Assesses buildings for vandalism. Repairs and reports issues to supervisor for billing to responsible parties.
- May assist journey tradesworker by performing duties related to carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, steam fitting, mechanical, or electrical.
- May lead or instruct helpers or maintenance workers as required.
- Responsible to be on-call on a rotating basis approximately four times a year. The person on-call is responsible to be available via phone or pager during off-hours, including weekends, and be able to respond to the campus within two hours of being contacted.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Six months full-time related vocational study, training, or applicable work experience.
- Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to drive service vehicles.
- Ability to load and unload materials, Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Available to access all areas of campus during shift, but also during campus emergencies or when on-call. Flexibility to work overtime hours if necessary.
- Must be able to carry, climb and lift different size ladders.
- Must have the ability to service trucks and hand and power tools such as table saws, power drills, etc.
- Forklift certification a plus.
