Vue Rooftop (located on the top floor of the Hilton Garden Inn) in downtown Iowa City is hiring for a Head Chef to join our Food & Beverage team! Vue Rooftop offers a creative contemporary menu, craft cocktails and an amazing atmosphere with unbelievable views of Iowa City and the surrounding country side! Vue Rooftop features an outdoor patio, fire pit, and reservable private event space for larger parties.With events ranging from late night Dueling Pianos to Silent Disco, Vue Rooftop is one of the leading destination dining restaurant/bars in the Iowa City area and the Midwest in general.
We are looking for a dynamic leader who would bring their passion and enthusiasm for pleasing people through food to this unique, one-of-a-kind venue. The successful candidate will be the primary person driving future menu changes and the overall organization and structure between 2 state of the art kitchens located in Vue Rooftop and the Hilton Garden Inn.
This is a full-time position, requiring approximately 50-55 hours of work each week. The Head Chef will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day food preparation for both Vue Rooftop, and the banquet department of the Hilton Garden Inn. The Head Chef is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of food for all guests through breakfast/lunch/dinner. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with an experienced Food & Beverage Director and Senior Sous Chef to hire train, and manage all kitchen personnel and supervise/coordinate all related culinary activities within the kitchens.
Essential duties and responsibilities for this position would include but are not limited to:
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and some holidays
- Manage purchasing and inventory systems
- Train, schedule and develop staff within reasonable budgetary guidelines
- Estimate food consumption and requisition or purchase food
- Develop menu changes based on leading industry trends
- Standardize production recipes to ensure quality
- Establish presentation techniques and quality standards
- Price menus and set prices
- Ensure proper equipment operation/maintenance
- Ensure property safety and sanitation in kitchen
- Fluent in local, natural, sustainable ingredients
- Must be on time and at work when scheduled
- Project a professional image in all aspects of work performance
- Must be able to maintain composure during periods of high stress
