The Colville Confederated Tribes Public Safety Division is recruiting for the following positions located in Nespelem, WA:
Corrections Sergeant
$24.08*$27.88-DOE

Basic Functions: Incumbent in this Non-Exempt position will work under the direct supervision of the Corrections Lieutenant or designee. This is a commissioned position that requires experience, skills and
capabilities of a commissioned law enforcement officer. The incumbent will be responsible for
providing leadership, guidance, direction and control necessary for the daily shift operations of the
corrections facility within accepted professional standards, policies, procedures and applicable
laws. Duties include, but are not limited to, housing, feeding, clothing, medical care, recreation,
safety, welfare and education of inmates. Incumbent may perform other supervisory and
administrative duties in absence of the Corrections Lieutenant.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must possess thorough knowledge of principles and practices involved with corrections administration and management in areas of compliance with codes, legal requirements and acceptable professional standards; facility maintenance, safety and security; liability exposure; support services; inmate programs; budget and grants; information management; public relations and communications.
- Experience must reflect exceptional communication skills to collaborate with Colville Business Council, Courts, Office of Reservation Attorney, Tribal Police, Prosecutor’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Legal Services, clergy, medical and mental health officials, other local, state, federal and tribal corrections and law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to manage and supervise subordinate staff, conduct performance evaluations and initiate corrective/disciplinary action in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Must demonstrate acceptable computer related skills in MS Word, Access, Excel and other data based software.
- Must successfully demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to perform functions of the position during interview process.
- Must successfully pass a written Corrections Sergeant’s test.
- Must pass a polygraph examination.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to meet schedules and timelines, write monthly progress reports and narrative of job functions and outcomes.
- Ability to manage and supervise subordinate staff, conduct performance evaluations and initiate corrective/disciplinary action in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Ability to analyze and compile complex financial data and statistical information; provide accurate, concise and competent reports on a daily, monthly and annual basis.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and determine effective and efficient means to their resolution.
- Working knowledge of grants and contracts, including ability to monitor and maintain compliance with a variety of grant awards, reimbursements and financial reports.
- Requires the ability to communicate with management, staff and the community using patience and courtesy, and in a manner that reflects positively on the organization.
- Ability to deal with the public courteously and tactfully.
- Familiarize and maintain CTCF safety requirement regarding inmates to make referrals to Program Coordinator and Corrections Management when necessary.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Requires demonstrated ability dealing with STRICT confidentiality.
- Requires good work attendance.
