Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice in Music Therapy

The Music Therapy Department in the College of Health at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, seeks to fill a full-time appointment for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice. Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate music therapy courses and ensembles focused on clinical musicianship, including guitar and percussion skills. If qualified, the individual will also have opportunity to supervise undergraduate clinical sessions.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in music;
  • Strong musicianship skills;
  • College teaching experience;
  • Experience teaching and/or supervising music therapy students; and
  • The ability to contribute to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence at CSU

Preferred qualifications:

  • Board-certified music therapist;
  • More than 5 years of full-time clinical music therapy experience;
  • Familiarity with the Therapeutic Function of Music Plan (Hanson Abromeit, 2015);
  • Clinical experience in medical, hospice, and/or adult mental health settings;
  • Experience with community engagement; and
  • Knowledgeable about issues of diversity and intersectionality.
