This is responsible technical work. Responsibilities include a wide variety of human resources activities, including personnel records processing, recruitment, new hire orientation, and payroll file maintenance. Provides clerical and administrative support to the Human Resources Director and Human Resources Officer. Must exercise initiative and independent judgment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, and math; standard office practices and procedures and operation of office equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of human resources recordkeeping.
- Ability to learn City and departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Makes decisions in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Ability to prepare documents and compose business letters and memoranda.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
- Considerable skill in proofing and editing text and reports; accurately maintain records and reports with speed and accuracy.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and perform complex verbal and written instructions.
- Self-motivated with good analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
- Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Training, Certification, and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources or related field with course work in personnel methods and administration preferred.
- Minimum of three years Human Resources experience.
- Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements
- Ability to accurately type a minimum of 50 words per minute (12,500 keystrokes per hour).
- Valid Florida driver's license.
