Atkins North America, Inc. has an opening for a Civil Engineer (Water Resources) in Calverton, Maryland. Under the direction of the Project Manager, apply civil engineering principles to a variety of civil engineering projects involving hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and analysis, complete floodplain mapping using the results from the H&H analyses along with digital terrain data, and assist with activities related to CNMS data and the validation of flood hazard data. Complete quality control reviews and oversee H&H analyses completed by junior engineers, coordinate and oversee the work completed by junior engineers on flood insurance revisions (MT-2 submissions), and review MT-2 submissions and evaluate submitted engineering H&H analyses to ensure that the analyses are technically accurate and that the revisions comply with FEMA NFIP regulations. Serve as a technical liaison to FEMA, state and local governments, and to other engineers and/or property owners who submitted the engineering H&H analyses. Requires M.S. in Civil Engineering and three (3) years of experience (1) preparing, reviewing, and managing preparation of floodplain study submissions for compliance with FEMA; (2) managing and performing detailed surface hydrologic and hydraulic computer monitoring and analysis for large- and small-scale FEMA floodplain projects, using various H&H engineering software, as well as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software for performing watershed assessments; and (3) developing engineering databases, reports, and work maps using HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS, SWMM, and AutoCAD. In lieu of the requirements above, will accept a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, plus five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as outlined above. Also requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license from any state and Certified Floodplain Management (CFM) designation.
